21. Vanaase aiaresto (Sat)

An old farmhouse, once long neglected, has now been restored and transformed into a meditation retreat center near the Luhamaa border. It may sound unbelievable – come and see for yourself! We also offer the best coffee in Setomaa, delicate salted trout, and breathtaking views.

Vanaase, Hindsa, Setomaa vald

Open only on Saturday

MENU HITS:

  • Breakfast: lightly salted trout with a 69-degree egg
  • Delicious smoked salmon for lunch
  • Seasonal fish directly from the hot smoker
  • Lemon cake
  • The best cappuccino in Setomaa and salted caramel raff

The theme of Kostipäev at Vanaase is all about fish: open-faced sandwiches with lightly salted trout, delicious smoked salmon, and seasonal fish freshly smoked on-site. For dessert, they offer lemon cake, Setomaa’s best cappuccino, and salted caramel raff. Vintage shellac records will be played, and there will be a small but unique vinyl pop-up store in Setomaa.
Vanaase farm dates back to 1900 when a large Luhamaa farm was divided between brothers, with the main house now located in Määsi village. The Vanaase building was later constructed, and after many years of neglect, it has recently been restored over the past four years into one of Luhamaa’s most beautiful spots, now hosting a meditation retreat center.

On warm days, guests can cool off in the large pond, and during rain or storms, activities move indoors to the dining hall or the garden.

Visitors are welcome!
