According to legend, Irboska dates back to the founding of the Russian state: in 862, three brothers arrived here, one of whom, Truvor, stayed to rule Irboska. Anyway, Irboska was for a long time an important center for the Russian state. Currently, it's best known for its castle, which was built in the 14th to 16th centuries and is being restored. Irboska Castle is located in a very pretty place, the Irboska-Mõla valley, on the bluffs overlooking Irboska City Lake. It's worth checking out the Slavic fountains that flow out of the lake: 12 springs that are naturally considered to be sacred and healing.
