Keeper of Seto cultural heritage Sarve Õie opens the yard and doors of Kiiova Handicraft and Culture Farm to visitors on Sunday, 9 August, from 11:00 to 16:00.
Here, over coffee and sõir (traditional Seto cured cheese), you can discover Seto textile heritage and enjoy Õie’s stories and songs. In addition to the treats served at the café, you can put your skills to the test in the handicraft corner and take home nourishment for both body and soul.
An important part of Õie’s kingdom is her home museum, which showcases a variety of Seto textiles, from traditional folk costumes to icon cloths. An exhibition also tells the story of Õie’s family. In fact, all the delicious food on the menu has been prepared with the help of family and good friends. You will certainly find Õie’s wonderfully tasty cured cheese and barley bread, as well as desserts inspired by childhood flavours that have appeared in the Seto-language magazine Täheke. The younger members of the family will also offer some flavourful surprises of their own. Bringing generations together is an important part of this café.
The secret aim of Kiiova Café is for every visit to spark an interest in one’s own roots and family stories. Heritage lives on in every homemade flavour and fragment of memory – come and discover, remember, meet and taste!
